dianne feinstein, carl levin, as well as republican john mccain whose own experiences as a p.o.w. in vietnam have made him an outspoken critic of torture. now, since most people have not seen the film yet, let me explain a little bit. the torture scenes, which there are more than one show cia interrogators waterboarding, humiliating, and abusing detainees. in the movie, these interrogations do result in crucial information in the search for osama bin laden. now, i would not say that the film actually glorifies torture, but the cia operatives are not squeamish about what they're doing. at a later point in the film, one of the officials complained about president obama's decision to stop the detainee program. now, in a letter to sony, which is the studio behind the film, the senators say that "zero dark thirty" is, quote, perpetuating the myth that torture is effective. they argue that a still classified report proves they called the coercive interrogations did not result in any information that led to bin laden's capture. here's what else they had to say in the letter. they sa

. the gentleman right here in the front. >> over here? >> my name is peter levin. i agree with most of your science, but i have a real problem of how you would choose to interpret some of this. i wrote the statement for senator connie mack when he went to the floor to defend the transfers, and he was a conservative republican in the leadership coming and we know perfectly well we were not going to have any problem with the democrats on this and the point of the were going to the floor and doing this was, as he said you mean they want me to ban the technique? i can't than the technique. and so, the whole question of emphasis on what happened like to allow more of a lines and that, there is a political reality to this game, and we were doing it to get a bunch of republicans cover to vote with us because we knew that they would follow. akaka on a number of things you slant things that i don't think our fairfax. they had a drug of real and something happens the fda is terrible they say that it's too slow. this goes on repeatedly on their bills if your conclusion is i'm showing that barack obama

to senators levin and mccain. live on c-span. >> why don't we give them a bunch over here? ok, sorry for the delay. we thought we had the vote, but there was no vote. senator mccain and i are part of a group of eight senators who have been working for about a month to come up with a proposal for our leaders and our conferences, which will hopefully overcome the gridlocked that has so permeated the u.s. senate. the eight senators who have participated in this effort are myself, senator mccain, senator schumer, senator alexander, senator cardin, senator kyle, senator prior, and senator barasso. it is a bipartisan proposal and we believe strongly we must reform the senate's procedures if it is going to do business more efficiently and fairly. there are many parts to our proposal, i would say the key number-one part is to give the majority leader options to overcome the filibuster and the threat of a filibuster on a motion to proceed. that has been the greatest problem around here in terms of getting to the business of working on bills. we cannot get to bills if there is a filibuster or

on your screen now! david: joining the company now from chicago is larry levin with trading advantage. larry, we hear a lot of theoretical talk, political talk about the fiscal cliff, let's get real specific. we actually have a chart of how much you're paying in taxes now on the left and this is how much extra you would pay if you go off the fiscal cliff. so look at that, if you're 50,000, you pay about 1200 bucks more. 100,000, $3600 more. how specific -- that's how it would affect individual income tax. how would it affect the economy and specifically the commodity trading that you do? >> well, it's for the stock indexes that i trade, the s&p and dow jones those markets i think will take a very large hit. in fact a good example of that would be what we saw about week and a half ago when we saw the republicans come in with the vote and then tend up not taking the vote at all. we saw the s&ps lose about 30 handles overnight, got a lot of that back because everybody thought they would go back and talk again. that's a really good example, a little bit of foreshadowing if you will of wha

because we used torture. >> mccain with senators dianne feinstein and carl levin wrote to sony complaining "zero dark thirty" has the potential to shape american public opinion in a disturbing and misleading manner. they asked sony to consider correcting the impression that c cia's use of interrogation techniques led to the capture of osama bin laden. she said showing the techniques was vital to the form. >> i think it was important for us to tell a true story. it's controversial but it's part of the history. >> part of history perhaps but only future historians might know how accurate holiday's first look at the search for bin laden actually is. for "cbs this morning," john blackstone cbs news. >> sony hat nos responded. senior correspondent john miller who once interviewed bin laden is a former director of cia national intelligence. we'll get the information from you now. how accurate is this portrayal? >> well the portrayal is extraordinarily accurate in the way that movies are accurate so all of that up to and including that one of the detainees was sub

feinstein, carl levin, john mccain, all of whom sent a letter to sony pictures calling the film grossly inaccurate and misleading. "the new york times" is now reporting that cia act director michael morrell sent out an agency-wide letter criticizing it. >> it is no question that the -- political drama around this movie is added to the buzz and made it as interesting as the film itself. i guess in the -- in the -- lit help drive interest into this thing but there's also a negative which is the fact that there's been so many of these political complaints that it could hurt the film at oscar time. lot of people will be voting for best picture, you know, may vekd thoughts because they -- they have this sense from, you know, authoritative sources that there is misleading and -- harmful position. >> can i ask you quickly of focus on this lone wolf character maya who is credited with the tracking down of bin laden. was this the case in reality? >> this is a very accurate portrayal. the woman is a real person and not a composite. she is still at the cia and under cover. a woman in her 30s who w
